They build elaborate prison systems with gnome-crafted concealment magic. They forge alliances with Fae, Leshy, and dragons to maintain the Veil. They navigate the Renaissance whilst hiding from the very civilization they help flourish. But immortality weighs heavy—even the strongest begin to feel the accumulated burden of centuries.

Crucible of the Covenant

1500-1800 CE

From the fires of the Reformation through the Enlightenment, the Guardians face transformation by flame. The printing press threatens their secrecy—information no longer controlled. Witch hunts force them deeper into shadows. And a new enemy emerges: the Sanctum Order, humans who know what the Guardians are and want them destroyed. The 950-year shadow war begins. Can immortal protectors survive when humanity itself becomes the hunter?

The Crimson Covenant

1800-1950 CE

The darkest era. The Industrial Revolution transforms everything—photography proves they don't age, forcing constant identity changes. The World Wars unleash industrial-scale genocide they cannot stop. Victorian technology accelerates. Modern surveillance emerges. Nuclear weapons threaten the Veil itself. As the twentieth century drowns in blood, the Guardians face an impossible question: how do you maintain ethical feeding whilst the world tears itself apart? How do you stay good in humanity's darkest hour?

1950-2025 CE

The digital age brings cameras everywhere. Facial recognition. AI pattern detection. Social media documenting everything. Every human carries a camera in their pocket. Satellites watch from above. How do vampires hide in a surveillance state? The Guardians must layer veil upon veil—each more complex than the last. Multiple identities. Digital ghosts. Constant reinvention. The supernatural Veil itself begins to fray. After 725 years, can secrecy survive the Information Age?

Legacy of the Covenant

2025+ CE

After 725+ years of hidden service, the culmination arrives. AI superintelligence. Climate catastrophe. Technological singularity. The world stands on the brink, and the Guardians must decide: reveal themselves to humanity for the first time, or maintain their eternal vigil in the shadows?
